A 2020 Vision
Last Sunday, Pastor Ben preached on The Way of Jesus. His life and ministry serve as our model and our inspiration. (You can listen to the sermon here: The Way.) Pastor Ben ended with a simple (but perhaps not easy application; A 2020 vision for UHC. If we are going to become like a Greenhouse Environment where all peoples can find new life in Jesus and grow to bear fruit for him, and if we are going to begin to see a 100 fold harvest, it will be directly proportional to the way we follow and become like Jesus. It can begin in some rather simple ways.
READ. PRAY. EAT.
Let’s READ the gospels in 2020. One of our core convictions, knowing and living God’s word, is vital. In 2020 let’s make Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John our primary text for personal Bible study. If we are going to follow the ways of Jesus, we must know them! if you want to join us in this journey/adventure, begin reading Matthew in January. Read at your own pace, a chapter a day or more. When you finish, begin again. In February we’ll move ton to Mark. As you converse with one another through the month, perhaps one of the questions you can ask each other will be, “How are you seeing Jesus through the Word?”
We must PRAY more in 2020! Another one of core convictions is: Everything by prayer. We want prayer to be the first, last, and central thing that we do. If we’re going to experience renewal in our own lives, our neighborhoods, our schools, our workplaces, our communities, it will be saturated by prayer. Join us at 9:30 a.m. on Sunday mornings in the Fellowship Hall as we begin our Sundays with prayer. Following the service (postlude) each Sunday (around noon), we’ll gather in the front to pray in response to the sermon and the Spirit’s stirring. And to emphasize that prayer is central let’s carve out time in the center of the week at the center of the day. Wednesdays from 12-1. You can join Pastor Ben at UHC, or you can stop and pray wherever you are. Perhaps you can find others to pray with (at Microsoft for example). Pray for the hour, or 5 minutes. Don’t know what to pray? Jesus teaches us in Matthew 6. Let’s pray that God’s Kingdom would come, that His will would be done, on earth as it is in heaven.
Finally, let’s EAT more in 2020! What we mean is, with intention, just as Jesus did. Share a meal a week with one another. Get to know each other. Share your story and your life. Listen. Ask questions (e.g., how are you seeing Jesus recently through the word?). Join a Life Group if you’re not in one. At least once a month make it a goal to share a meal with others who aren’t quite like you. Break down “walls” by breaking bread with others. Invite. Welcome. Share. Show love. This is what Jesus did constantly. These were some of His “ways”. Let’s follow Him.
